A/78/167 Report of the Independent Expert on the enjoyment of human rights by persons with albinism, Muluka-Anne Miti-Drummond Climate change and persons with albinism Summary In the present report, the Independent Expert on the enjoyment of human rights by persons with albinism, Muluka-Anne Miti-Drummond, focuses on the impact of climate change on persons with albinism. She addresses the particular impact of climate change on persons with albinism, given their susceptibility to skin cancer, mostly owing to lack of or inefficient protection against harsh ultraviolet rays or sun exposure. The report further addresses a number of human rights-related challenges of climate change on persons with albinism, including in the context of discrimination based on colour and disability, the right to the enjoyment of the highest attainable standard of health, the right to education, the right to employment and the right to life. Climate change could impinge on the full enjoyment of those rights and have a disproportionate impact on persons with albinism. The report also contains examples of good practice and several recommendations to address the various challenges related to climate change. The Expert hopes that the present report will provide the basis for further in-depth studies and analysis on the impact of climate change on persons with albinism, as more pertinent information may become readily available in the future. 2/23 23-13701
