The human right to safe drinking water and sanitation The General Assembly, Recalling its resolution 64/292 of 28 July 2010, in which it recognized the right to safe and clean drinking water and sanitation as a human right that is essential for the full enjoyment of life and all human rights, Reaffirming the previous resolutions of the Human Rights Council regarding the human right to safe drinking water and sanitation, inter alia, Council resolution 24/18 of 27 September 2013,1 Recalling the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, 2 the International Covenant on Economic, Social and Cultural Rights,3 the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights,3 the International Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Racial Discrimination,4 the Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination against Women,5 the Convention on the Rights of the Child6 and the Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities,7 Reaffirming its commitments to human rights as expressed in its resolution 55/2 of 8 September 2000, entitled “United Nations Millennium Declaration”, and its follow-up resolutions 60/1 of 16 September 2005, entitled “2005 World Summit Outcome”, and 65/1 of 22 September 2010, entitled “Keeping the promise: united to achieve the Millennium Development Goals”, _______________  Reissued for technical reasons on 25 June 2014.
