A/RES/59/156 Convinced of the need to strengthen local, regional and international cooperation in effective prevention and combating of such activities wherever they occur, Determined to prevent the provision of safe haven to those who participate in or profit from transnational organized crime and to prosecute such persons for the crimes they commit, Deploring the commercialization of the human body, 1. Urges Member States, should they ascertain that such a phenomenon exists in their country, to adopt the necessary measures to prevent, combat and punish the illicit removal of and trafficking in human organs; Encourages Member States to exchange experience in and information 2. on preventing, combating and punishing the illicit removal of and trafficking in human organs; Requests the Eleventh United Nations Congress on Crime Prevention and 3. Criminal Justice to pay attention to the issue of the illicit removal of and trafficking in human organs; Requests the Secretary-General, in collaboration with the States and 4. organizations concerned and subject to the availability of extrabudgetary resources, to prepare a study on the extent of the phenomenon of trafficking in human organs for submission to the Commission on Crime Prevention and Criminal Justice at its fifteenth session. 74th plenary meeting 20 December 2004 2
