A/RES/59/22 Having considered the report of the Secretary-General on the implementation of resolution 57/43, 1 Noting with satisfaction the substantial progress achieved in cooperation between the United Nations, the specialized agencies and other United Nations bodies and programmes and the International Organization of la Francophonie, Convinced that strengthening cooperation between the United Nations and the International Organization of la Francophonie serves the purposes and principles of the United Nations, Noting the desire of the two organizations to consolidate, develop and strengthen the ties that exist between them in the political, economic, social and cultural fields, Takes note with satisfaction of the report of the Secretary-General,1 and 1. welcomes the increasingly close and productive cooperation between the United Nations and the International Organization of la Francophonie; Notes with satisfaction that the International Organization of la 2. Francophonie participates actively in the work of the United Nations, to which it makes a valuable contribution; Notes with great satisfaction the initiatives taken by the International 3. Organization of la Francophonie in the areas of conflict prevention, the promotion of peace and support for democracy, the rule of law and human rights, and commends it on the genuine contribution it makes, in cooperation with the United Nations, in Haiti, the Comoros, Côte d’Ivoire, Burundi, the Democratic Republic of the Congo and the Central African Republic; Welcomes the initiation of cooperation between the United Nations and 4. the International Organization of la Francophonie, with the participation of other regional and subregional organizations, as well as non-governmental organizations, in the fields of early warning and conflict prevention, and encourages the pursuit of this initiative with a view to formulating practical recommendations to facilitate the establishment of relevant operational mechanisms, where necessary; Expresses its gratitude to the International Organization of la 5. Francophonie for the steps it has taken in recent years to promote cultural and linguistic diversity and dialogue between cultures and civilizations; Expresses its appreciation to the Secretary-General of the United Nations 6. and the Secretary-General of the International Organization of la Francophonie for their sustained efforts to strengthen cooperation and coordination between the two organizations, thereby serving their mutual interests in the political, economic, social and cultural fields; Welcomes the fact that the tenth summit conference of la Francophonie 7. was devoted to solidarity for sustainable development, and calls upon the specialized agencies and the funds and programmes of the United Nations system to enhance their cooperation with the International Organization of la Francophonie in the area of sustainable development; Also welcomes the involvement of the countries that use French as a 8. common language, particularly through the International Organization of la _______________ 1 A/59/303, part one, sect.
