the Convention on the Elimination of All
Forms of Discrimination against Women
The General Assembly,
Recalling
the Elimination
decision 49/448
the revision of
its resolution 49/164 of 23 December 1994 on the Convention on
of All Forms of Discrimination against Women 1/ and its
of 23 December 1994 on the consideration of the request for
article 20, paragraph 1, of the Convention,
Noting the decision of the States parties to the Convention on the
Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination against Women of 22 May 1995 2/
to amend article 20, paragraph 1, of the Convention,
Welcoming the call for broad ratification of this amendment in the
Platform for Action of the Fourth World Conference on Women, 3/ held at
Beijing from 4 to 15 September 1995,
Reiterating the importance of the Convention as well as the contribution
of the Committee on the Elimination of Discrimination against Women to the
efforts of the United Nations to eliminate discrimination against women,

Takes note with approval of the resolution regarding the amendment
to article 20, paragraph 1, of the Convention on the Elimination of All Forms
of Discrimination against Women, adopted by the States parties to the
Convention on 22 May 1995;
