Cooperation between the United Nations and the Caribbean Community The General Assembly, Recalling its resolution 46/8 of 16 October 1991, by which it granted observer status to the Caribbean Community, Recalling also that the purposes of the United Nations are, inter alia, to achieve international cooperation in solving international problems of an economic, social, cultural or humanitarian character, Recalling further that the Charter of the United Nations contemplates the existence of regional arrangements or agencies for dealing with such matters as are appropriate for regional action and other activities consistent with the purposes and principles of the United Nations, Bearing in mind that the Treaty of Chaguaramas, signed at Chaguaramas, Trinidad and Tobago, on 4 July 1973, 1/ which established the Caribbean Community, created a permanent body for intraregional cooperation, consultation and coordination in order to enhance economic, social and cultural development, including the optimum utilization of available human resources for sustainable development, ____________ 1/ United Nations, Treaty Series, vol. 946, No. 13489. 95-76153 /...
