A/RES/50/87 Page 3 experience of the Organization in confidence-building measures, as well as the increased cooperation between the Organization and States in Asia, and looking forward to the continuation of those contacts, Welcoming further the decision of the Permanent Council of the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe, which met at Budapest on 7 December 1995, 5/ that the above-mentioned Mediterranean States would be known henceforth as "Mediterranean Partners for Cooperation" and the abovementioned States in Asia as "Partners for Cooperation", 1. General; Takes note with satisfaction of the report of the Secretary- 2. Welcomes the intensified cooperation and coordination between the United Nations and the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe on the basis of the framework agreement, 1/ and requests the Secretary-General of the United Nations to explore with the Chairman-in-Office and the SecretaryGeneral of the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe possibilities for further improvement, with special regard to the mutual provision in advance of information in those areas where both organizations have their own respective roles to play; 3. Also welcomes the support extended by the United Nations in sharing its experience with the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe in conflict prevention and peace-building and peace-keeping activities; 4. Supports the activities of the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe aimed at contributing to stability and the maintenance of peace and security within its region, and stresses the importance of the work done by its field missions; 5. Encourages the States members of the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe to make every effort to achieve peaceful settlement of disputes in the region, through conflict prevention and crisis management by the Organization, including peace-keeping; 6. Welcomes the General Framework Agreement for Peace in Bosnia and Herzegovina and the annexes thereto, signed in Paris on 14 December 1995 by the Presidents of the Republic of Bosnia and Herzegovina, the Republic of Croatia and the Federal Republic of Yugoslavia, 6/ and the important role it assigns to the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe to supervise the preparation and conduct of free and fair elections in Bosnia and Herzegovina, to monitor, in cooperation with other international organizations, the human rights situation, to help guide the negotiating process to bring about regional stability and to build mechanisms to increase confidence and security; 5/ See A/50/813-S/1995/1030. 6/ See A/50/790-S/1995/999. /...
