Welcoming the conclusion of the Chairperson-Rapporteur of the Working
Group in paragraph 30 of its report as well as his proposal as contained in annex I to
the report,
1.
Adopts the United Nations Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous
Peoples, as contained in the annex to the present resolution, which was proposed by
the Chairperson-Rapporteur of the Working group of the Commission on Human
Rights to elaborate a draft declaration in accordance with paragraph 5 of General
Assembly resolution 49/214 of 23 December 1994 in annex I to the report of the
working group on its eleventh session (E/CN.4/2006/79);
2.
Recommends to the General Assembly the following draft resolution
for adoption:
The General Assembly,
Taking note of Human Rights Council resolution 1/2 of 29 June 2006, by
which the Council adopted the text of the United Nations Declaration on the Rights of
Indigenous Peoples,
1.
Expresses its appreciation to the Council for the adoption of the
United Nations Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples;
2.
Adopts the Declaration as contained in the annex to the present
resolution.
