A/RES/56/24 O 2005 R EVIEW C ONFERENCE OF THE P ARTIES TO THE T REATY ON THE N ON-P ROLIFERATION OF N UCLEAR W EAPONS AND ITS P REPARATORY C OMMITTEE The General Assembly, Recalling its resolution 2373 (XXII) of 12 June 1968, the annex to which contains the Treaty on the Non-Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons,2 Noting the provisions of article VIII, paragraph 3, of the Treaty regarding the convening of review conferences at five-year intervals, Recalling the decision of the 2000 Review Conference of the Parties to the Treaty on improving the effectiveness of the strengthened review process for the Treaty, 46 which reaffirmed the provisions in the decision on strengthening the review process for the Treaty, adopted by the 1995 Review and Extension Conference of the Parties to the Treaty, 47 Noting the decision on strengthening the review process for the Treaty 47 in which it was agreed that Review Conferences should continue to be held every five years, and noting that, accordingly, the next Review Conference should be held in 2005, Recalling the decision of the 2000 Review Conference that three sessions of the Preparatory Committee should be held in the years prior to the Review Conference, 46 Recalling also its resolution 55/33 D of 20 November 2000, in which it welcomed the adoption by consensus of the Final Document of the 2000 Review Conference of the Parties to the Treaty on the Non-Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons, 42 1. Takes note of the decision of the parties to the Treaty on the NonProliferation of Nuclear Weapons, following appropriate consultations, to hold the first session of the Preparatory Committee in New York from 8 to 19 April 2002; 2.
