Report of the Special Rapporteur on the right to food
Note by the Secretariat
The Secretariat has the honour to transmit to the Human Rights Council the report of the
Special Rapporteur on the right to food, prepared pursuant to Council resolution 22/9. In
the report the Special Rapporteur explores the structural, cultural, legal, economic and
ecological barriers that women face in their fulfilment of the right to food. It identifies
examples of good practice, demonstrating how increased access to and control over assets
on behalf of women, has shown to have positive effects on household food security, child
nutrition and general well-being of the woman and her family. The report encourages States
to focus on gender-sensitive policies in all fields, particularly in the context of climate
change, in order to achieve further improvements in women’s access to their right to food.
