Follow-up to the Fourth World Conference on Women and
to the twenty-third special session of the General Assembly
entitled “Women 2000: gender equality, development and
peace for the twenty-first century”
1.
The Commission considered item 3 of the agenda at its 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th, 5th,
6th, 7th, 8th, 9th, 10th, 11th and 13th meetings, on 26, 27, 28 February and
1, 2, 7 and 9 March. It had before it the following documents:
(a) Report of the Secretary-General on the elimination of all forms of
discrimination and violence against the girl child (E/CN.6/2007/2);
(b) Report of the Secretary-General on progress in mainstreaming a gender
perspective in the development, implementation and evaluations of national policies
and programmes, with a particular focus on the elimination of all forms of
discrimination and violence against the girl child (E/CN.6/2007/3);
(c) Report of the Secretary-General on the situation of and assistance to
Palestinian women (E/CN.6/2007/4*);
(d) Report of the Secretary-General on the joint workplan of the Division for
the Advancement of Women and the Office of the United Nations High
Commissioner for Human Rights (A/HRC/4/68-E/CN.6/2007/5);
(e) Note by the Secretary-General transmitting the report of the United
Nations Development Fund for Women on the activities of the Fund to eliminate
violence against women (A/HRC/4/069-E/CN.6/2007/6);
(f) Letter dated 2 November 2006 from the President of the Economic and
Social Council to the Chairperson of the Commission on the Status of Women
(E/CN.6/2007/7);
(g) Report of the Secretary-General on the advisability of the appointment of
a special rapporteur on laws that discriminate against women (E/CN.6/2007/8);
(h) Statements submitted by non-governmental organizations in consultative
status with the Economic and Social Council (E/CN.6/2007/NGO/1-43);
(i) Note by the Secretary-General on the results of the thirty-seventh session
of the Committee on the Elimination of Discrimination against Women
(E/CN.6/2007/CRP.1);
(j) Note by the Secretariat on the proposed programme of work of the Office
of the Special Adviser on Gender Issues and Advancement of Women and the
Division for the Advancement of Women for the biennium 2008-2009
(E/CN.6/2007/CRP.2);
(k) Note by the Bureau of the Commission on the Status of Women on the
discussion guide on the high-level round table on the elimination of all forms of
discrimination and violence against the girl child (E/CN.6/2007/CRP.4).

At its 1st, 5th, 6th, 7th, 8th and 10th meetings, on 26 and 28 February and
1 and 2 March, the Commission held a general discussion on agenda item 3.
