A/68/294 Council, States should indicate measures taken pursuant to the post-2015 education-related development agenda. International solidarity and cooperation 133. States in fragile situations and least developed countries may encounter difficulties in achieving the universal education goals of the post-2015 development agenda. In a spirit of international cooperation and solidarity, they should be supported by the international community in their implementation endeavour. Increased domestic and international investment in education is fundamental to boosting progress towards the achievement of development agendas. Fostering the humanistic mission of education 134. The system of education should be inspired by a humanistic mission rather than by a mere utilitarian role of education. This is of utmost importance, as the humanistic mission of education is being vitiated. It is therefore important to pay critical attention to the human rights values and norms and to global citizenship as part of the humanistic mission of education so that education is aimed at promoting its essential objectives and meeting basic learning needs. Principles of social justice and equity 135. Finally, the post-2015 development agenda should be founded upon certain key principles. The principle of social justice is at the core of the global mission of the United Nations to promote development and human dignity, and the principles of social justice and equity are reflected in the United Nations Millennium Declaration. These are of abiding importance in guiding State actions and should receive renewed emphasis in the post-2015 development agenda, with a view to creating a better world for present and future generations. 26/26 13-42277
