E/2007/27 E/CN.6/2007/9 Chapter VII Organization of the session A. Opening and duration of the session 1. The Commission on the Status of Women held its fifty-first session at United Nations Headquarters from 26 February to 9 March 2007. The Commission held 13 meetings (1st to 13th). 2. The session was opened by the Chairperson of the Commission, Carmen María Gallardo (El Salvador), who also made a statement. 3. At the 1st meeting, on 26 February 2007, the Deputy Secretary-General of the United Nations, the President of the Economic and Social Council and the Executive Director of UNFPA addressed the Commission. 4. The Commission viewed a video message from the Executive Director of UNICEF. B. Attendance 5. The session was attended by representatives of 45 States members of the Commission. Observers of other States Members of the United Nations and for non-Member States, representatives of organizations of the United Nations system and observers for intergovernmental, non-governmental and other organizations also attended.* C. Election of officers 6. In accordance with paragraph 2 of Economic and Social Council resolution 1987/21, the officers elected to the Bureau of the Commission should serve for a term of office of two years. The following officers elected at the fiftieth session continued to serve during the fifty-first session: Chairperson: Carmen María Gallardo (El Salvador) Vice-Chairpersons: Adekunbi Abibat Sonaike (Nigeria) Thomas Woodroffe (United Kingdom) Vice-Chairperson-cum-Rapporteur: Dicky Komar (Indonesia) 7.
