61/144. Trafficking in women and girls
The General Assembly,
Recalling all international conventions that deal specifically with the problem
of trafficking in women and girls, such as the Convention on the Elimination of All
Forms of Discrimination against Women 1 and the Optional Protocol thereto, 2 the
Convention on the Rights of the Child 3 and the Optional Protocol thereto on the sale
of children, child prostitution and child pornography, 4 the Convention for the
Suppression of the Traffic in Persons and of the Exploitation of the Prostitution of
Others, 5 the United Nations Convention against Transnational Organized Crime 6
and the Protocols thereto, in particular the Protocol to Prevent, Suppress and Punish
Trafficking in Persons, Especially Women and Children, supplementing the United
Nations Convention against Transnational Organized Crime 7 and the Protocol
against the Smuggling of Migrants by Land, Sea and Air, supplementing the United
Nations Convention against Transnational Organized Crime, 8 as well as previous
resolutions of the General Assembly, the Economic and Social Council and the
Commission on Human Rights on the issue,
Reaffirming the provisions pertaining to trafficking in women and girls
contained in the outcome documents of relevant international conferences and
summits, in particular the strategic objective on the issue of trafficking contained in
the Beijing Declaration and Platform for Action adopted by the Fourth World
Conference on Women, 9
