Millennium Summit of the United Nations The General Assembly, Recalling its resolution 53/202 of 17 December 1998, by which it decided, inter alia, to designate the fifty-fifth session of the General Assembly “The Millennium Assembly of the United Nations” and to convene, as an integral part of the Millennium Assembly, a Millennium Summit of the United Nations, Recalling also its resolution 53/239 of 8 June 1999, by which it decided, inter alia, that the Millennium Summit should begin on 6 September 2000, Reiterating that the year 2000 constitutes a unique and symbolically compelling moment to articulate and affirm an animating vision for the United Nations in the new era, and in this context endorsing the proposal of a co-chairmanship of the Millennium Summit, Reiterating also that a Millennium Assembly would provide an opportunity to strengthen the role of the United Nations in meeting the challenges of the twenty-first century, Having considered the report of the Secretary-General entitled “The Millennium Assembly of the United Nations: thematic framework for the Millennium Summit”,1 Mindful of the need for appropriate organizational preparations for the holding of the Millennium Summit, 1 A/53/948 and Add.1. 00 35654 /...
