Traditional or customary practices affecting the health of women and girls The General Assembly, Reaffirming its resolution 52/99 of 12 December 1997 and its other relevant resolutions and decisions, as well as those of the Economic and Social Council, the Commission on Human Rights and the Subcommission on Prevention of Discrimination and Protection of Minorities of the Commission on Human Rights, Recalling the reports of the Special Rapporteur of the Subcommission on Prevention of Discrimination and Protection of Minorities on traditional practices affecting the health of women and children and of the Special Rapporteur of the Commission on Human Rights on violence against women, its causes and consequences, Reaffirming the obligation of all States to promote and protect human rights and fundamental freedoms as stated in the Charter of the United Nations, reaffirming also the obligations contained in later human rights instruments, in particular article 5 of the Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination 2 against Women1 and article 24 of the Convention on the Rights of the Child, and mindful of article 2, subparagraph (a), of the Declaration on the Elimination of Violence against Women,3 1 Resolution 34/180, annex. 2 Resolution 44/25, annex. 3 Resolution 48/104. 99-76477 /...
