Report of the Working Group on the issue of
discrimination against women in law and in
practice
Summary
The Working Group on the issue of discrimination against women in law and in
practice was established pursuant to Human Rights Council resolution 15/23 of 1 October
2010.
In this first report to the Human Rights Council, the Working Group provides a brief
historical overview of events leading to the establishment of its mandate (sect. II). It
develops a conceptual framework that will guide its analyses of issues relating to equality
and non-discrimination (sect. III) and highlights its thematic priorities for 2012-2013,
which are discrimination against women in law and in practice in political and public life,
and in economic and social life (sect. IV). The Working Group submits its agreed methods
of work (sect. V) and an overview of activities that it has undertaken since its inception
(sect. VI). Section VII contains concluding remarks.
