Equal access to justice for all
The General Assembly,
Reaffirming its resolution 70/1 of 25 September 2015, entitled “Transforming
our world: the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development”, in which it adopted a
comprehensive, far-reaching and people-centred set of universal and transformative
Sustainable Development Goals and targets that are indivisible and integrated and
balance the three dimensions of sustainable development, in which it recognized that
eradicating poverty in all its forms and dimensions, including extreme poverty, is the
greatest global challenge and an indispensable req uirement for sustainable
development, and in which it committed to achieving sustainable development in its
three dimensions – economic, social and environmental – in a balanced and integrated
manner,
Recalling Sustainable Development Goal 16, to promote peaceful and inclusive
societies for sustainable development, provide access to justice for all and build
effective, accountable and inclusive institutions at all levels, and bearing in mind that
the 2030 Agenda, inter alia, envisaged a world of universal respect for human rights
and human dignity, the rule of law, justice, equality and non-discrimination,
Recognizing the importance of providing technical assistance and capacity building, upon request, to Member States, in particular developing countries, to
support their efforts in crime prevention and criminal justice, including in the area of
access to justice,
Recalling the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, 1 which affirms that all
are equal before the law and all are entitled without any discrimination to equal
protection of the law, and that all are entitled to equal protection against any
discrimination in violation of the Declaration and against any incite ment to such
