Report of the Special Rapporteur on violence against
women, its causes and consequences
Summary
In the present report, the Special Rapporteur on violence against women, its
causes and consequences provides an account of her activities since her previous
report. Following a discussion on the adequacy of the international legal framework
on violence against women, she presents responses received from regional
mechanisms and the Committee on the Elimination of Discrimination against Women
following her call for input on the issue. She addresses the topic of femicide, or the
gender-related killing of women, and proposes the establishment at the global,
national and regional levels of a “femicide watch” and observatories on violence
against women.
