66/121. Policies and programmes involving youth
The General Assembly,
Recalling the World Programme of Action for Youth, adopted by the General
Assembly in its resolutions 50/81 of 14 December 1995 and 62/126 of 18 December
2007,
Recalling also the outcome document of the High-level Meeting of the
General Assembly on Youth: Dialogue and Mutual Understanding, adopted by the
General Assembly on 26 July 2011, 1
Recalling further the Outcome of the Conference on the World Financial and
Economic Crisis and Its Impact on Development, 2
Welcoming the initiative of the Government of Sri Lanka to host in 2014 a
world conference on youth in Colombo, with a focus on the participation and
involvement of youth in achieving the internationally agreed development goals,
including the Millennium Development Goals,
Welcoming also the participation of young representatives in national
delegations at the General Assembly,
Profoundly concerned that the situation of youth, especially girls and young
women, in many parts of the world has been negatively impacted by the world
financial and economic crisis, and reaffirming that eradicating poverty continues to
be among the greatest global challenges facing the world today, recognizing its
impact beyond the socioeconomic context,
Recognizing that the ways in which young people are able to address their
aspirations and challenges and fulfil their potential will influence current social and
economic conditions and the well-being and livelihood of future generations, and
stressing the need for further efforts to promote the interests of youth, including the
full enjoyment of their human rights, inter alia, by supporting young people in
developing their potential and talents and tackling obstacles facing youth,
