A/HRC/RES/27/4 United Nations General Assembly Distr.: General 2 October 2014 Original: English Human Rights Council Twenty-seventh session Agenda item 3 Promotion and protection of all human rights, civil, political, economic, social and cultural rights, including the right to development Resolution adopted by the Human Rights Council 27/4 Local government and human rights The Human Rights Council, Recalling its resolutions 5/1 of 18 June 2007, 16/21 of 25 March 2011 and 24/2 of 26 September 2013, and its decision 6/102 of 27 September 2007, Recalling also the mandate of the Human Rights Council, as set forth in General Assembly resolution 60/251 of 15 March 2006, Taking note of Advisory Committee action 9/1 of 10 August 2012 on research proposals,1 which includes a research proposal on local government and human rights, presented to the Human Rights Council for its consideration and approval, in accordance with its functions as described in paragraphs 75 to 78 of the annex to Council resolution 5/1, Taking note with appreciation that the Advisory Committee presented to the Human Rights Council at its twenty-seventh session a progress report based on research on the role of local government in the promotion and protection of human rights, including human rights mainstreaming in local administration and public services;2 1. Requests the Advisory Committee to continue its research, from within existing resources, and to submit a final report on the role of local government in the promotion and protection of human rights to the Human Rights Council at its thirtieth session; 2. Also requests the Advisory Committee, when elaborating the abovementioned report, to include therein the main challenges faced by local governments in the promotion and protection of human rights, and to make recommendations on tackling those 1 2 See A/HRC/AC/9/6.
