58/281. Sixth International Conference of New or Restored
Democracies, to be held in Doha in 2006
The General Assembly,
Bearing in mind the indissoluble links between the principles enshrined in the
Universal Declaration of Human Rights 1 and the foundations of any democratic
society,
Recognizing that the United Nations has an important role to play in providing
timely, appropriate and coherent support to the efforts of Governments to achieve
democratization within the context of their development efforts,
Recalling the offer by the Government of Qatar to host the Sixth International
Conference of New or Restored Democracies in 2006, 2
Expressing once again its deep appreciation for the support provided by
Member States, the United Nations system, including the specialized agencies, and
other intergovernmental organizations to the Government of Mongolia for the
holding of the Fifth International Conference of New or Restored Democracies in
Ulaanbaatar,
Welcomes the proposal of the Government of Qatar to hold the Sixth

International Conference of New or Restored Democracies from 30 October to
1 November 2006 in Doha;
Invites the Secretary-General, Member States, the relevant specialized

agencies and bodies of the United Nations system, as well as other
intergovernmental and non-governmental organizations, to support and collaborate
in the holding of the Sixth International Conference of New or Restored
Democracies;
