Report of the Independent Expert on the enjoyment of
human rights by persons with albinism, Ikponwosa Ero
Summary
In the present report, the Independent Expert on the enjoyment of human rights
by persons with albinism, Ikponwosa Ero, assesses the attitudinal barriers that persons
with albinism experience around the world. Research shows that prejudicial and
stereotypical attitudes towards persons with albinism are prevalent and ubiquitous
and have largely gone unchallenged and unrecognized. The Expert sheds light on
some of these attitudinal barriers in different spheres of society and their impact on
the enjoyment by persons with albinism of their human rights. She also makes
recommendations regarding measures to be taken to tackle these barriers.
