The Rome Statute of the International Criminal Court lists, under acts that may constitute war crimes and crimes against humanity, the recruitment and use of children in armed conflict, the commission of rape, sexual slavery, enforced prostitution, forced pregnancy, enforced sterilization any other form of sexual violence and enslavement. Also of relevance are the Geneva Conventions relating to the protection of victims of international armed conflicts of 1949 and the Protocols Additional thereto of 1977, under which certain conduct in the context of international and non-international armed conflict, including slavery, sexual slavery, sexual violence and forced labour, is prohibited.
