Reaffirming the Beijing Declaration and Platform for Action, 1 the outcomes of the twenty-third special session of the General Assembly, entitled “Women 2000: gender equality, development and peace for the twenty-first century”, 2 the Programme of Action of the International Conference on Population and Development 3 and the Programme of Action of the World Summit for Social Development 4 and their reviews, and the international commitments in the field of social development and to gender equality and the empowerment of women and girls made at the World Conference against Racism, Racial Discrimination, Xenophobia and Related Intolerance 5 and the 2005 World Summit, as well as those made in the outcome document of the high-level plenary meeting of the General Assembly on the Millennium Development Goals, entitled “Keeping the promise: united to achieve the Millennium Development Goals”, 7
