Elimination of all forms of discrimination against women and girls
The Human Rights Council,
Guided by the purposes and principles of the Charter of the United Nations,
Reaffirming the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, the Convention on the
Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination against Women, the Convention on the Rights
of the Child, the Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Racial Discrimination and
all other relevant human rights treaties and instruments,
Recalling that gender equality and the condemnation of discrimination and violence
against women and girls have been recognized in the Vienna Declaration and Programme of
Action, the Programme of Action of the International Conference on Population and
Development, the Beijing Declaration and Platform for Action and the outcome documents
of their review conferences, the Durban Declaration and Programme of Action and the
outcome document of the Durban Review Conference,
Noting that 2020 marks the twenty-fifth anniversary of the Fourth World Conference
on Women and the adoption of the Beijing Declaration and Platform for Action, which have
contributed greatly to the progress made towards achieving substantive gender equality and
the empowerment of women and girls, and in this regard welcoming the political declaration
adopted by the Commission on the Status of Women at its sixty-fourth session on the
occasion of the anniversary,
Recalling all relevant resolutions and agreed conclusions adopted by the Human
Rights Council, the General Assembly, the Security Council, in particular Security Council
resolution 1325 (2000) of 31 October 2000 on women, peace and security, the Commission
on the Status of Women and other United Nations agencies and bodies that consider the issue
of discrimination against women and girls,
Recalling also the inclusion of both gender equality and the empowerment of all
women and girls as a stand-alone goal and their mainstreaming into all goals and targets of
the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, and the adoption of the Addis Ababa Action
Agenda of the Third International Conference on Financing for Development,
