52/149. United Nations International Day in Support of Victims of Torture
The General Assembly,
Recalling Economic and Social Council decision 1997/251 of 22 July 1997, in preparing for the fiftieth
anniversary of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights,1
Proclaims 26 June United Nations International Day in Support of Victims of Torture, with a view to
the total eradication of torture and the effective functioning of the Convention against Torture and Other
Cruel, Inhuman or Degrading Treatment or Punishment,2 which entered into force on 26 June 1987.
