Report of the Special Rapporteur on trafficking in persons,
especially women and children
Summary
The present report is divided into three main sections: an introduction, an
outline of the activities undertaken by the Special Rapporteur during the reporting
period and an assessment of the first decade of the mandate on trafficking in persons ,
especially women and children. In follow-up to the report of the Special Rapporteur
to the Human Rights Council (A/HRC/26/37), the present report draws the attention
of the General Assembly to the major areas of focus and main achievements during
the first decade of the mandate, the contribution to key conceptual and legal gains
and the challenges of the past 10 years. In conclusion, the Special Rapporteur offers
recommendations to future mandate holders, States and others on how to advance the
work of combating trafficking. Finally, the basic principles on the right to an
effective remedy, which were finalized through consultations with States and other
stakeholders and written submissions, are presented (see annex).
