Takes note of resolution CM/Res.1356 (LIV) of 1991, adopted by the
Council of Ministers of the Organization of African Unity, 36 on the Bamako
Convention on the Ban on the Import of Hazardous Wastes into Africa and on the
Control of Their Transboundary Movements within Africa;
7.
Expresses the hope that the effective implementation of the International
Atomic Energy Agency Code of Practice on the International Transboundary
Movement of Radioactive Waste will enhance the protection of all States from the
dumping of radioactive wastes on their territories;
8.
Appeals to all Member States that have not yet taken the necessary steps
to become party to the Joint Convention on the Safety of Spent Fuel Management
and on the Safety of Radioactive Waste Management 34 to do so in time to attend the
first Review Meeting of the Contracting Parties;
9.
Decides to include in the provisional agenda of its fifty-eighth session the
item entitled “Prohibition of the dumping of radioactive wastes”.

I MPLEMENTATION OF THE C ONVENTION ON THE P ROHIBITION OF THE U SE,
S TOCKPILING, P RODUCTION AND T RANSFER OF ANTI- PERSONNEL M INES
AND ON T HEIR D ESTRUCTION
The General Assembly,
Recalling its resolutions 54/54 B of 1 December 1999 and 55/33 V of
20 November 2000,
Reaffirming its determination to put an end to the suffering and casualties
caused by anti-personnel mines, which kill or maim hundreds of people every week,
mostly innocent and defenceless civilians and especially children, obstruct economic
development and reconstruction, inhibit the repatriation of refugees and internally
displaced persons, and have other severe consequences for years after emplacement,
Believing it necessary to do the utmost to contribute in an efficient and
coordinated manner to facing the challenge of removing anti-personnel mines placed
throughout the world, and to ensure their destruction,
Wishing to do the utmost in ensuring assistance for the care and rehabilitation,
including the social and economic reintegration, of mine victims,
Welcoming the entry into force on 1 March 1999 of the Convention on the
Prohibition of the Use, Stockpiling, Production and Transfer of Anti-personnel
Mines and on Their Destruction, 37 and noting with satisfaction the work undertaken
to implement the Convention and the substantial progress made towards addressing
the global landmine problem,
