[Welcomes:] General Assembly resolution 52/100 of 12 December 1997 and 52/231 of 4 June 1998, in which it decided that the high-level plenary review to appraise and assess the progress achieved in the implementation of the Nairobi Forward-looking Strategies for the Advancement of Women adopted in 1985 by the World Conference to Review and Appraise the Achievements of the United Nations Decade for Women: Equality, Development and Peace (United Nations publication, Sales No. E.85.IV.10) (chap. I, sect. A) and the implementation of the Beijing Declaration and Platform for Action of the Fourth World Conference on Women (A/CONF.177/20, chap. I), should be held as a special session of the General Assembly in the year 2000;
