Strengthening of the United Nations system The General Assembly, Recalling its resolution 51/241 of 31 July 1997, by which it adopted the recommendations of the Openended High-level Working Group on the Strengthening of the United Nations System as contained in the annex to the resolution, Recalling also the report of the Secretary-General on the implementation of resolution 51/241,1 Recalling further its resolution 52/232 of 4 June 1998, by which it decided that the fifty-second session of the General Assembly would close on Tuesday, 8 September 1998, and that the fifty-third session of the General Assembly would open on Wednesday, 9 September 1998, and by which it decided that the International Day of Peace would continue to be observed on the opening day of the regular sessions, Mindful that, for practical reasons, the closing of the regular sessions of the General Assembly should be on a Monday, which should not be a holiday, and the opening of the regular sessions should be on the following day, that is, on a Tuesday, 1.
