Decentralization of activities and resources
in the fields of energy and natural
resources
The General Assembly,
Reaffirming its resolution 47/212 B of 6 May 1993, in particular section
II thereof,
Recalling Economic and Social Council resolution 1993/61 of
30 July 1993, in which the Council reaffirmed its support for decentralization
in order to achieve a more effective distribution of responsibilities and
tasks between global, regional and national entities,
Affirming that decentralization should have as its prime objective the
efficient use of resources for more effective programme delivery,
Taking into account the views expressed in the Fifth Committee during
the forty-eighth session of the General Assembly, 1/

Endorses the proposals of the Secretary-General contained in his

Requests the Secretary-General to report on the implementation of
those proposals in the context of the proposed programme budget for the
biennium 1996-1997, as well as in the programme performance report for the
biennium 1994-1995;

Also requests the Secretary-General to include the related
transfer of resources between sections and the resulting savings in the first
performance report on the programme budget for the biennium 1994-1995;
