The number of children in the world aged under 15 is estimated at 2 million, and the number who have lost one or both parents to AIDS at 15 million, of whom the vast majority live in sub-Saharan Africa. A forward-looking study conducted by UNICEF estimates that in 2010, HIV/AIDS will have caused 20 million African children aged under 15 to lose one or both parents.
