54/142. Preparations for the special session of the General Assembly entitled
“Women 2000: gender equality, development and peace for the
twenty-first century”
The General Assembly,
Recalling its resolutions 52/100 of 12 December 1997, 52/231 of 4 June 1998 and 53/120 of 9 December
1998 and Economic and Social Council resolution 1996/6 of 22 July 1996, and bearing in mind Council
resolution 1999/50 of 29 July 1999,
Taking note of the reports of the Secretary-General on the initiation of the comprehensive review and
appraisal of the implementation of the Platform for Action of the Fourth World Conference on Women,1 and
on the framework for further actions and initiatives that might be considered during the special session of
the General Assembly entitled “Women 2000: gender equality, development and peace for the twenty-first
century”,2
