Human rights and indigenous peoples: mandate of the Special
Rapporteur on the rights of indigenous peoples
The Human Rights Council,
Bearing in mind paragraph 6 of General Assembly resolution 60/251 of
15 March 2006,
Recalling resolution 5/1 on institution-building of the Human Rights Council and
resolution 5/2 on the Code of Conduct for special procedures mandate holders of the
Council, of 18 June 2007, and stressing that the mandate holder shall discharge his or her
duties in accordance with these resolutions and the annexes thereto,
Recalling also Commission on Human Rights resolutions 2001/57 of 24 April 2001,
2002/65 of 25 April 2002, 2003/56 of 24 April 2003, 2004/62 of 21 April 2004 and
2005/51 of 20 April 2005 on human rights and indigenous issues, and Human Rights
Council resolutions 6/12 of 28 September 2007 and 15/14 of 30 September 2010 on the
mandate of Special Rapporteur on the rights of indigenous peoples,
1.
Decides to extend the mandate of the Special Rapporteur on the rights of
indigenous peoples for a period of three years on the same terms as provided by the Human
Rights Council in its resolution 15/14;
2.
Requests all Governments to cooperate fully with the Special Rapporteur in
the performance of the tasks and duties mandated, to furnish all available information
requested in his or her communications, and to react promptly to his or her urgent appeals;
3.
Encourages the United Nations, including its specialized agencies, regional
intergovernmental organizations, Governments, independent experts, interested institutions,
national human rights institutions, non-governmental organizations and, in particular,
