It should also be recalled that non-State actors can have a positive role to play in preventing violence and can use their often significant influence to promote human rights in the environments in which they operate. Business enterprises, working in compliance with the Guiding Principles on Business and Human Rights and ensuring consultation with minorities can, for example, pursue their activities in a manner that minimizes negative impacts on minorities and their environments and can reduce the threat of violence.
