50/142.
Follow-up to the International Year of the
Family
The General Assembly,
Recalling its resolutions 44/82 of 8 December 1989, 45/133 of
14 December 1990, 46/92 of 16 December 1991 and 47/237 of 20 September 1993,
concerning the proclamation, preparations for and observance of the
International Year of the Family,
Taking note with appreciation of the report of the Secretary-General on
the observance of the International Year of the Family, 1/
Bearing in mind the results of the International Conference on
Population and Development, 2/ the World Summit for Social Development 3/
and the Fourth World Conference on Women, 4/ within which it was noted that
the family is the basic unit of society and as such should be strengthened,
that it is entitled to receive comprehensive protection and support, that in
different cultural, political and social systems various forms of family exist
and that the rights, capabilities and responsibilities of family members must
be respected,
