In the present report, he addresses the importance of guaranteeing access to justice in the context of the rights to freedom of peaceful assembly and of association. Those fundamental rights contribute to the fight against impunity through accountability and prevent future violations and abuses from occurring. In the report, he also recognizes the fundamental role lawyers and legal practitioners have played and continue to play in protecting protesters around the world. * Agreement was reached to publish the present report after the standard publication date owing to circumstances beyond the submitter’s control.
