A/HRC/RES/58/15 Reaffirming its collective commitment to reaching gender equality and the empowerment of all women and girls as essential to achieving all of the Sustainable Development Goals and their targets, in particular Goal 5, and emphasizing the importance of women’s equal participation and leadership in decision-making processes, high-level management, policy formulation, diplomacy and negotiation, Recognizing the work of the Committee on the Elimination of Discrimination against Women to advance gender equality across public, political, social and economic life, and taking note of its general recommendation No. 40 (2024) on the equal and inclusive representation of women in decision-making systems, Emphasizing the importance of measures to ensure women’s full and effective participation and equal opportunities for leadership at all levels of decision-making in diplomacy, including in the United Nations system at its highest level, and highlighting the continued efforts by Member States, international organizations and civil society to bridge the gender gap with a view to achieving gender parity in diplomacy and multilateralism, 1. Urges States to take all appropriate measures to ensure to women, on equal terms with men and without any discrimination, the opportunity to represent their Governments at the international level and to participate in the work of international organizations; 2. Encourages States to take national, regional and international initiatives that promote women’s leadership in diplomacy, inter alia, mentorship programmes, institutional reforms, compilation and publication of relevant statistics, support for associations of women diplomats, training to combat gender stereotypes, and inclusive and multisectoral policies to ensure sustainable progress toward gender equality; 3. Calls upon States, international organizations and relevant stakeholders to actively promote and ensure the full, equal, meaningful and safe participation and leadership of women at all levels of multilateral forums, to take measures to prevent and respond to sexual harassment, violence and misconduct, including in the digital space, and to advocate for equal representation in leadership positions, while recognizing the critical role of women in fostering inclusive, sustainable and effective multilateral decision-making processes; 4. Decides to commemorate the International Day of Women in Diplomacy during one panel at the annual full-day discussion on the human rights of women, to be held during the fifty-ninth, the sixty-second and the sixty-fifth sessions of the Human Rights Council, including with discussions on the elimination of discrimination and structural barriers that hinder women’s participation and representation in decision-making; 5. Invites all States, organizations of the United Nations system and civil society, including non-governmental organizations, academic institutions, associations of women diplomats and other relevant stakeholders, to participate in this celebration; 6. Decides to continue its consideration of the matter and to review progress in subsequent sessions of the Human Rights Council. 57th meeting 3 April 2025 [Adopted without a vote.] 2
