The situation in Afghanistan The General Assembly, Recalling its resolution 64/11 of 9 November 2009 and all its previous relevant resolutions, Recalling also all relevant Security Council resolutions and statements by the President of the Council on the situation in Afghanistan, in particular resolutions 1659 (2006) of 15 February 2006, 1817 (2008) of 11 June 2008, 1917 (2010) of 22 March 2010 and 1943 (2010) of 13 October 2010, Reaffirming its strong commitment to the sovereignty, independence, territorial integrity and national unity of Afghanistan, and respecting its multicultural, multi-ethnic and historical heritage, Recalling the long-term commitment of the international community to Afghanistan previously set out in the Bonn Agreement of 5 December 2001, 1 made at the International Conference on Reconstruction Assistance to Afghanistan, held in Tokyo on 21 and 22 January 2002, and set out in the Afghanistan Compact of 31 January 2006, 2 the Declaration of the International Conference in Support of Afghanistan, held in Paris on 12 June 2008 and the Declaration adopted at the International Conference on Afghanistan, held in The Hague on 31 March 2009, 0F 1F Recognizing once again the interconnected nature of the challenges in Afghanistan, reaffirming that sustainable progress on security, governance, human rights, the rule of law and development, as well as on the cross-cutting theme of counter-narcotics, is mutually reinforcing, and welcoming the continuing efforts of the Government of Afghanistan and the international community to address these challenges in a coherent manner, Reiterating the urgent need to tackle the challenges in Afghanistan, in particular the increased violent criminal and terrorist activities by the Taliban, Al-Qaida, illegal armed groups and those involved in the narcotics trade, in particular in the south _______________ 1 Agreement on Provisional Arrangements in Afghanistan Pending the Re-establishment of Permanent Government Institutions (see S/2001/1154). 2 S/2006/90, annex. 10-51302 *1051302* Please rec cle ♲
